Nelson Growables is a garden focussed one day community event. There is a growing trend towards growing vegetables and tending gardens. People of all ages are realizing the health and nutritional benefits and satisfaction of growing their own fruit, vegetables, and flowers, not to mention the, often unnoticeable, benefits of the physical activity. Growables hit the spot. The Nelson Growables was held for the first time in 2009 and was a huge success with over 4,000 people attending.
The objectives of the Nelson Growables are to:
• inspire and encourage the growing trend towards growing vegetables and tending gardens;
• provide and affordable self-sustaining garden focussed community event;
• encourage the health, nutritional benefits and satisfaction individuals gain from growing their own vegetables, fruit and flowers.
It provided the community with a wonderful gardening event that encouraged and inspired the community towards growing their own produce and other gardening options.
Due to the success the Nelson Growables has become imprinted on the Nelson events calendar with the 2010 Growables planned for the weekend 13th November. It will continue to operate as a not-for-profit charity with the objective of being self –sustaining and yet affordable for stallholders and the public. Any proceeds will be retained for future Growables evens as well as promoting the Growables message.
